El año de noviciado es una etapa única y crucial en la formación religiosa, pues es durante este año que se forja la identidad y el carácter del candidato, y se le inculca el espíritu y el carisma de una congregación en particular. En resumen, es el año en que se forja un dominico.
Al concluir este año intensivo de formación y transformación, los novicios tuvieron otra oportunidad de reflexionar sobre su crecimiento humano, espiritual e intelectual, enriquecido por las inspiradoras charlas de nuestro querido hermano mayor, el P. Fausto Gómez, OP, quien pacientemente los acompañó en su retiro de cinco días, del 5 al 10 de julio de 2026.
A través de sus charlas, cuidadosamente preparadas, el P. Fausto invitó a los novicios a adentrarse en las profundidades de su vida interior para discernir su vocación y prepararse para la profesión de los votos. Durante estos cinco días de soledad, el predicador del retiro también profundizó el conocimiento de Cristo en los novicios y fortaleció su determinación de seguirlo. También les ayudó a ver los apegos mundanos como contrarios a nuestra forma de vida. Además, los animó a examinar el lugar de Cristo en sus propias vidas y qué los impulsó a ingresar a la vida religiosa.
Hablando de Santo Domingo, nuestro fundador, el P. Fausto invitó a los novicios a convertirse en auténticos seguidores suyos, emulando su ejemplo y abrazando su celo por las almas.
En sus charlas, nuestro hermano mayor también les dijo a los novicios que creer en Cristo significa encontrarse con Él personalmente, ya sea a través de las actividades cotidianas, el amor y la alegría, o el dolor y el sufrimiento que comparten con los demás. Uno de los mensajes más conmovedores fue que Cristo, durante su vida terrenal, ejemplificó lo que debemos hacer por la salvación de las almas. Hoy, Cristo ya no está físicamente cumpliendo su misión en la Tierra. En este sentido, hemos sido llamados específicamente a ser otros Cristos para los demás. Estamos invitados a ser las manos de Cristo para continuar su misión, sus pies para ir de ida y vuelta, y su voz para proclamar la Palabra viva de Dios.
Estos cinco días de retiro han sido un tiempo de verdadera transformación interior y de mayor motivación para que los novicios sigan a Jesús. «No me eligieron ustedes, sino que yo los elegí a ustedes», son las palabras más alentadoras de Jesús para que los novicios respondan al llamado de Dios con total generosidad por la salvación de las almas.

Novitiate year is a unique and crucial stage in religious formation because it is within this year that a candidate’s identity, and character are formed, shaped, and the spirit and charism of a particular congregation are instilled in them. In short, it is a year when and where a Dominican is made.

Fausto Gomez, OP, who patiently accompanied them in their five-day retreat, from 5th-10th of July, 2026.
Through his well-prepared talks, Fr. Fausto invited the novices to enter into the depths of their inner life to discern their call and prepare themselves for professing the vows. During these five days of solitude, the retreat preacher also deepened the novices’ knowledge of Christ and strengthened their determination to follow him. He also helped see worldly attachments as contrary to our way of life. Besides, he encouraged them to examine the place of Christ in their own lives and what moved them to step into religious life.
Talking about St. Dominic, our founder, Fr. Fausto invited the novices to become authentic followers of him, emulating his examples and embracing his zeal for souls.
In his talks, our elderly brother also told the novices that believing in Christ means encountering Him personally—whether through daily activities, love and laughter, or the sorrow and suffering which they share with others. One of the most moving messages was that Christ, during His earthly life, exemplified what we must do for the salvation of souls. Today, Christ is no longer physically carrying out His mission on Earth. In this sense, we have been called specifically to be another Christs for others. We are invited to be the hands of Christ to continue His mission, His feet to go forth itinerantly, and His voice to proclaim the living Word of God.
These five days of retreat have been a time for a true change of heart and a deepening of motivation to follow Jesus for the novices. "It is not you who chose me, but I who chose you," serves as the most encouraging words of Jesus for the novices to respond to God's call with complete generosity for the sake of the salvation of souls.
